Baptism

Baptism is the first Sacrament of Initiation.

Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit (vitae spiritualis ianua), and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission: “Baptism is the sacrament of regeneration through water in the word.(CCC1213)

Baptisms are held each Sunday at 12.00pm by appointment. Baptism Preparation Evenings will encourage and help the child’s parents to understand the sacrament and involve themselves in their child’s journey of faith. These are held once a month on the third Thursday of each month at 7:30pm in the church. Parents must attend the Baptism Preparation Evening prior to their child’s baptism.

It is also encouraged for godparents to attend. Babies/children need to have at least one and no more than four godparents – with at least one of which (preferably more) who is a practising Catholic at least 16 years of age.
